South–South Migration
This module examines the growing importance of South–South migration and its impact on contemporary Moroccan society, identity, and diplomacy. Designed for Master's students in Cultural Studies and Cultural Diplomacy, the course provides a critical understanding of migration as a social, cultural, and political phenomenon shaping relations within the Global South.
Students will explore the historical development of South–South migration in Morocco, analyze its contribution to the construction of Moroccan identity, evaluate its role in Morocco's official diplomatic strategies, and investigate the relationship between migration and cultural diplomacy. Through theoretical perspectives, case studies, academic discussions, and practical activities, learners will develop the analytical skills necessary to assess migration issues from both cultural and diplomatic viewpoints.
By the end of the module, students will be able to identify and explain key concepts related to South–South migration, apply migration theories to Moroccan contexts, critically analyze migration policies and diplomatic practices, evaluate the impact of migration on identity formation, and produce informed academic and policy-oriented analyses.
